Python 101: Python Crash Course


Back by popular demand, we are running another round of the Python programming crash course!

Suitable for newbies who like to kickstart their journey in python programming, this two-day intensive course will equip you with the skills required to read and write simple, meaningful python code as well as automate repetitive calculations required for data analysis.

Day 1: Python Basics

You will explore various data types such as strings, numbers and Boolean, and also learn how to organize these data into different structures such as list, set and dictionary. After you get familiar with basic data types and structures, we will show you how to access and manipulate these data/data structure conditionally by using different control flows such as if-else and loops.

Day 2: Working with Data Sources

You will learn how to write and save some reusable functions which can take inputs from command line/files, perform calculations and return calculated results as an output. You will also leverage existing functions written by other developers by importing their modules into your workspace. Each concept in the course will be followed by practical drills.

About the Instructor:

Ocean Li Haiyang, with 7 years’ of experience writing Python code. Currently working as a software engineer in an investment bank, he helps to build the corporate in-house risk management system. To meet the requirements of the front office user, the job entails trade capturing, risk & regulation reports generation/automation, market data retrieving, time series analysis and visualization. As a senior developer, he is also required to teach Python Foundations to junior developers.

Zhao Chuxin, has12 years programming experience, from C to Java, from Perl to Ptyhon. Worked as technical lead in startupa as well as MNCs. Provided critical support in multiple occasions to secure multi million dollar deal. He also lead his team to design and prototype a patent pending technology.

Ann Luo, a self-taught developer. Currently working as data engineer in a startup, her daily is using Python & SQL
